Council gives green light to new Gort play ground

Planning permission has been granted by Galway County Council for a playground in Gort.

Local Cllr Bridie Willers was quick to express her delight at the news that the facility was now set to go ahead on the Ennis Road.

The playground will hopefully be a great asset to families in the locality.  It will be open and fully functional later this year, she revealed.

News of the successful application was welcomed throughout the town, particularly as members of the Playground Committee were left disappointed and frustrated last year with the failure to secure the approval of site owners the VEC for the original playground.

The committee has selected that site, but it had not met the criteria laid down by Galway County Council.

Funding for the new playground will come from Galway County Council and GRD Athenry, backed by a major contribution from the Playground committee itself.

The site now destined to house the playground is part owned by Galway County Council and Gort Community School.
